He was born March 11, 1920 in Crawford County, Ill., son of the late Samuel and Bertha (Beabout) Otey and graduated from high school in Oblong, Ill. Mr. Otey served with the U. S. Navy during World War II on a destroyer escort in the Pacific Theatre. On Aug. 22, 1941, he married the former Dorotha Hyatt in Midland. She survives him. He was employed by The Dow Chemical Co. as a foreman in the Caustic Soda Division from 1941 until his retirement in 1977. Ken was a member of the Mt. Haley Church of God.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Otey was predeceased by a son, Earl Otey on April 7, 2007, his brothers Gilbert and Leo Otey and his sisters Pauline Smith, Mary Kernohan and Sara Ruth Howard.
Funeral and committal services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2008 from the Mt. Haley Church of God. Pastor Gary Mize will officiate, with burial to take place later in Midland Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
