Her father Alex fought in the War Between the States for the Confederacy in the Virginia 23rd Infantry Battalion. After the Civil War, the McMullens made their way West with their children to Eight Mile Grove, Cass County, Nebraska. They made Cass County their home for several decades, before most of them finally made their way to Washington State in the early 20th century. It was in Washington State where Martha's parents died.
3 of the 11 McMullen siblings died young, among them, Martha V. She passed away after 1870 and before 1880 (somewhere between the ages of 10-19). She never married, or had children. It is unknown how she died. Although the McMullens spent many years there, Martha is the only member of this McMullen clan to be buried in Nebraska.
