Essie was a daughter of Dora Rhodes who later married George Daniel in Etowah Co., AL on August 12, 1894.
Note that her death date is May 19, 1916 according to both newspaper articles.
Essie's obituary was published in the Birmingham Age-Herald, a Birmingham, Alabama newspaper, and copied by this submitter, ngl. The newspaper shows Bessie rather than Essie. Published: May 20, 1916, "Mrs. Bessie Brown, aged 31 years, died at the family residence, 1813 Allen Street, North, yesterday morning at 5 o'clock. Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, C.W. Brown, and a child. Funeral arrangement will be announced later by the S.W. Woodin Undertaking Company." Published: May 21, 1916, "Funeral services over the remains of Mrs. Bessie Brown, aged 31, who died at the family residence, 1813 Allen Street, North, Friday morning were conducted from the residence yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment followed in Elmwood Cemetery. The Rev. Marvin Heflin officiated. The deceased is survived by her husband and one child."
According to records located, Essie went by the surname Daniel, the name of her step-father. Many records indicate her name as Essie Worthington Daniel. George Daniel was married to his first wife when Essie was born to Dora. Research did not reveal why her name was Worthington. Perhaps, that was the surname of the man who was the biological father of Essie.
Essie married Charles Wallace Brown and they had one son, Charles Wallace Brown, Jr. (born July 2, 1910 St. Louis, Missouri and died May 21, 1985, Salt Lake City, Utah.)
Spouse of Essie, Charles Wallace Brown (born March 8, 1874, Nelsonville, Ohio and died Dec. 27, 1960, Dayton, Ohio.)
Essie was a sister to Lura who married A.D. Fail. Essie had half-siblings and step-siblings.
