ST. ANTHONY - Howard B. Hansen, 55, well-known businessman in the St. Anthony area, died at his home, September 10, 1982, following a lingering illness.
He was born November 28, 1926 at Tetonia, to Hans Norman and Sarah Slena Porter Hansen. He was an active member of the LDS Church. He grew up and attended schools in Tetonia.
He married Maxine Hazel Briggs, September 19, 1953 at Rexburg. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
He had been a member of the Rexburg and St. Anthony Chambers of Commerce, the Rexburg Jaycees, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a Veteran of World War II, where he served in the Navy in the South Pacific.
He started in the furniture business in 1954 with the Eckersell-Weiser Furniture Store in Rexburg. In 1968 he brought the Barton Furniture Store in Rexburg and later owned and operated Howard Hansen Furniture in St. Anthony for many years. He was co-owner of Hanson Furniture in Rexburg until he sold out to his partner, Mel Hanson, in 1972. He had lived in St. Anthony since 1974.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Neil Vaughn Hansen and Layne Howard Hansen, both of St. Anthony; four brothers, Don C. Hansen, St. Anthony; George F. Hansen, Rigby; Miles Hansen, St. Anthony; two sisters, Mrs. Melvin (Jean) Hanson, Idaho Falls, and Mrs. James (Connie) Garrett, Pocatello, and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gordon Hansen, and one sister, Goldie Hansen.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the St. Anthony LDS Stake Center with Bishop Grant Mortensen officiating. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery.
