Son of Hugh A & Kathryn (Duncan) Dow, Carroll Dow married Marjorie Whitley on Sep 6, 1942 in Lodi, Lodi, San Joaquin Co., CA
California, County Marriages, 1850-1952

Carroll Dow, a Lodi veterinarian, nursery owner and grape grower, died Sunday in a Lodi convalescent hospital after battling Alzheimer's disease for four years. He was 81.
Family and friends remember Dow, who was one of Lodi's first veterinarians, as a caring and determined person.
Raquel Dow said her father vowed to beat Alzheimer's disease after being diagnosed in December 1998.
"If there was anyone who could do it, I believed it would be him," she said of her father, whom she characterized as a gentle man with a gruff exterior.
Her father considered the community an extension of his family through his business and service as a Lodi Unified School District board member and a 4-H leader.
"He just believed in doing whatever he could to help others," she said.
Dow was born Jan. 2, 1922, in Egypt, Wash. His family moved to Santa Rosa when he was an infant and moved to Lodi several years later.
He attended Lodi schools, including Lodi Union High School, where he graduated in 1939.
During high school, he played football, was involved in band and served as student body president.
Angelo Fanos, of Lodi, who met Dow as a freshman in high school, said his friend had a passion for agriculture.
The pair were among the school's 1938 national championship livestock judging team for the Future Farmers of America.
Dow also had the personality to be successful in business.
"He was always serious-minded," Fanos said. "He did everything in an orderly manner, which was not like me at all. Maybe that's why we got along so well."
Dow earned his veterinary medicine degree at then-Washington State College in Pullman, Wash. He lived in Hawaii for two years until he returned to Lodi and started the Animal Hospital on Ham Lane.
Dow raised Aberdeen Angus cattle on his ranch and was a former president of the Western States Aberdeen Angus Association. He also was on the Henderson Elementary School district board until some Lodi-area districts merged to form Lodi Unified School District in 1967. He served as an LUSD trustee until 1973.
After working as a veterinarian, he bought Dow's Nursery from his parents in 1970 and operated the business until 1992.
Retirement didn't slow Dow down. He continued to maintain 40 acres of grapes on his ranch.
He is survived by his daughter, his son; siblings, Orwin Dow, of Walnut Creek, Selma Heagerty, of Lodi, and Evelyn Comartin, of Lodi; and one grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Dow; and son, Bradley Dow.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Gierhart-Wells and Donahue Funeral Home. There will be no visitation and burial will be private at Lodi Memorial Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Aid Society of Northern California, 105 S. Washington St., Lodi, CA 95240.
