"Levi Sharman, 118 North Third street, a well-known citizen, died of pulmonary complaint, in his 77th year. He had been ailing for several years, but did not take his bed until Sunday. He was born in Spring township and was a son of the late ex-County Commissioner John Sharman. He came to Reading in 1861 and worked as a carpenter until 1864, when he engaged in the saddlery business with Joseph Moyer on Penn street below Fourth. He was a policeman under Mayor Gernant, and was watchman at the jail under Wardens Noll and Wills. Deceased was a member of Lodge No. 59, I.O.of O. F.; Hebron Encampment, No. 8, I.O. of O.F.; Lodge No. 62, F. and A.M., and Chapter No. 152, F. and A.M. He was the last of a family of eleven children. His wife Emma, who was a daughter of the late John Moyer, and four children, Howard O., John M., and Edward L., all of Reading, and Irvin M., of Leesport, survive."
