The death of Mrs Matilda Friend occurred at 1 o’clock yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs Maud Sweet, No 1431 Kossuth street, the immediate cause being dropsy. The deceased was born in Pennsylvania on January 5, 1825 and was a daughter of Dr William and Sarah Biddle, who resided in the city in 1849. She was married to John Friend in 1843, his death occurring in this city on November 11, 1878. Mr and Mrs Friend came to Indiana in 1847 and resided for a short time in white county, where she became a member of the Christian church. Later the family moved to this city. She is survived by three children, Miss Maud Sweet and George Friend, of this city, and Charles Friend, of Dayton. Mrs Friend possessed a splendid character, was thoughtful, kind and considerate and was ever doing charitable acts. The funeral will be held at 10 o’clock, Tuesday morning from the Sweet residence, Rev J M Thompson, of the Dayton M E church, officiating. The body will be interred in Greenbush cemetery.
