It appears the family used Magers and Majors interchangeably which leads to alot of confusion!
Arthur America Magers was named, according to family lore, after Americus, Georgia. David Magers (his father) was a prisoner of war during the Civil War and was held captive near Americus. (to learn more about this see David's internment).
Arthur's father & mother met during his confinement and struck a bargain that if she helped him escape they would marry. So the name Arthur America is in honor of this episode in his parent's lives.
Arthur worked at Hazel Atlas Glass according to the census records. And his World War 1 draft card states he had blue eyes, brown hair and a medium build.
His wife was Margaret Etta Stockdale Magers/Majors. They had 5 children together; Iris Elizabeth, Margaret Alice, Hugh David, Sarah Opal, and Gladys Marie.
