Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C.C. Griggs at Marshall this morning at 11 o'clock for Eli Wendal, 86, who died in the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. after a severe 3 weeks' illness.

Mr. Wendal was born in Parke County and lived at Marshall until the death of his wife in 1916, when he went to live with his son, Harry, in Washington, D.C. He was a member of the 137th Regiment, Co. L in the Union Army and served under General Lew Wallace. He was a member of the Odd Fellows.

Surviving are: a brother, Henry of Byron; 4 sons, George and Harry of Washington, D.C., Charles of near Greencastle, Versa of Los Angeles; 4 daughters, Mrs. Ollie V. Cox, Mrs. E.F. Baker of Indianapolis, Mrs. Bloomer Alward of Wallace, and Sarah Glaze of Bloomingdale. Two daughters, Elizabeth and Eva, and the wife, Martha, have preceded him in death.

Members of the Marshall and Bloomingdale Odd Fellows took part in the services. Burial was made in the Poplar Grove Cemetery at Marshall.
