He was born Sept. 4, 1922, in Boone, Iowa, to Frank and Clara (Foster) Mishler. He married Betty Rasmussen on Feb. 9, 1946.
Mr. Mishler served in the U.S. Army during World War ll. On Dec. 17, 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge, he was taken prisoner. For 115 days he was held as a prisoner of war. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his service. In 1950, he joined his father's electrical company, Mishler Electric. He was a past commander and a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5040 in Woodstock. He also was a mason.
He enjoyed camping and was a founding member of the Woodstock Woodchucks camping group. He was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed selling crafts for many years at Autumn Drive, where he was known as the Tin Can Man.
He is survived by his wife of 66 wonderful years, Betty Mishler; his sons, Robert (Char) Mishler, Barry (Rita) Mishler and Scott Mishler; special friend, Tong Dom Vorachak; his grandchildren, Jason (Georgette) Mishler, Britta (Jim) Farella, Tonya (Joe Hess) Mishler, Nicci (Ronnie Richardson) Mishler, Gavin (Lisa) Schmitt, Darren Schmitt and Tyler (Nicole) Schmitt; and his great-grandchildren, Devin, Zoe and Gage Mishler, Jarvis Hernandez, Brayden and Sadie Mishler, and Cayden Mishler Richardson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Maxine Wright; and a brother, Eugene Mishler.
The visitation will be from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock. The visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, at First United Methodist Church, 201 W. South St., Woodstock. Burial with full military honors provided by VFW Post 5040 Honor Guard will be in McHenry County Memorial Park.
