Obituary for John Stephen Lanning

Death of J S Lanning
The Eldorado Courier, Vol. XIII, No 12
Friday, October 23, 1914

J S Lanning, who lived about three miles north of town died at his home Friday morning at 4 o'clock. He was stricken the Saturday previous and gradually grew worse till his death. The trouble as diagnosed by his physician was diabetes. The last two or three days of his life gave no promise of rallying, as he lay almost motionless, which indicated that his body had suffered a stroke of paralysis.

Mr. Lanning was born in Illinois in 1870, and came to this state eighteen years ago. He settled with his family in the Twin Lakes community where he has lived practically ever since. He leaves a family of one boy and four girls, his devoted companion and two brothers.

He was a member of the Christian church, under whose auspices the funeral service was held at the Eldorado cemetery Friday afternoon in the presence of a large number of his neighbors and friends. The funeral discourse was preached by Elder Eldridge, pastor of the Quanah church.

The family has the profound sympathy of all the people where they are known, and because of their long residence in this section he was known to most of our readers.

Card of Thanks
The Eldorado Courier, Vol. XIII, No 12
Friday, October 23, 1914

We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our friends who so faithfully and tenderly assisted us in caring for our departed companion and brother in his last earthly hours. While we know that this is an hour which must come to all, we pray that it may long be deferred from entering your homes.

Mrs. J S Lanning, W E Lanning, O F Lanning
