Like his father, two brothers and at least two brother-in-laws, Abraham served in the War of 1812. From the 27 Feb 1958 The Chronicle (Scottsburg) - "Abraham was born in 1782 or 83 in VA. He came to Scott Co before 1812. He served in the 2nd Regt of the IN militia as an issuing commissary under Col. Joseph Bartholomew and Capt. John Blizzard, and in Blockhouse service or Indian wars Mar 6 1813 he volunteered for service for 45 days in Clark Co. March 28 1855 he applied for a Bounty Land Warrant given to soldiers of the War of 1812." His BLW (81546-160-55) indicates his role as "Commissary, IN Militia, War of 1812."
