Charles R. Hayes, 83, of Indianapolis, Indiana, died Saturday in St. Vincent Hospital. Hayes was a retired tool and die worker at Union Carbide Company. He was a member of Scottish Rite and Eagles Lodge 211.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Grinsteiner Funeral Home. Calling will be until 9:00 p.m. tonight. There will be an Eagles' service at 7:00 p.m., and a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. tonight. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Survivors include: wife, Marguerite Pittman Hayes; Donnieta Pait, Patricia Carter, Rae Marie Smith; a son, Jeff Laymon; step-sons George Hayes and Oscar Hayes; five grandchildren, and and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Pearlina M. Brown who died June 21, 1961, in Gallatin County, Illinois.
