Delberta (Merrill) Burris, of Tucson passed away April 11, 2014.

She was born to Delbert and Alvera Merrill on Jan. 26, 1935 in Miami, Ariz. She was a graduate of Miami High School, class of 1953.

Delberta started work as a telephone operator in Miami, and remained in that profession most of her working life. She was very proud of her 33 years with the civil service, in Arizona and Alaska. In 1982 she moved to Alaska, and after retiring in 2007, she returned to Arizona, where her children live.

Delberta's favorite hobby was gardening. Everything she planted seemed to flourish. A tribute to the beautiful life she lived, cherished by all who loved and knew her.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Delbert and Alvera Merrill.

Delberta is survived by her four children, Trena Walker of Phoenix, Dana Schnabel of Tucson, Tracy Wallace of Tucson, and Dustin Schnabel and wife, Jodi, of Tucson; her brothers, Timothy (Phyllis M.), and Perry (Phyllis D.) from Alaska; five grandchildren, James, Candice, Stephen, Timothy, and Justin; five great-grand children, Devon, Logan, Lakaya, Khlea, and Jayden; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

There will be a private graveside service May 2 and a celebration of life May 3 in Central Heights.

Delberta was an avid Yankees fan; on her journey she will be yelling "Go Yankees!"
