Geraldine (Geri) Kimbrel Cotton, slipped peacefully away into the arms of Jesus on April 26, 2014 surrounded by her family.

Geraldine affectionately know as Ghee, was born on October 15, 1931 in West Blocton, Alabama and was the 8th child of the late William C. and Carrie W. Kimbrel. Geraldine graduated from Hueytown High School, Hueytown, Alabama in 1950 where she was voted Most Athletic Girl. She joined the Air force in November of 1951. Geri attended Jones School of Law and retired from the Veterans Administration in Montgomery, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brothers and sisters.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 61 years, Carl and their three children, Nancy Hover, Carl Cotton, Jr. and Robin Cotton. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Judson Hover, Jessica Cotton, trey Cotton and 2 great-grandchildren, Mackensie Cotton and Prentice Hover as well as many other friends and relatives.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home from 5-7. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Alabama Heritage on May 1, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Chuck Francisco officiating. Burial will follow in Alabama Heritage Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Bob Young, Frank Bertarelli, Curtis Jordan, Rodger Overton, Mack Starling and Sam Davis.

In lieu of flowers she requested donations be made to your local humane society or the charity of your choice in her memory. The US flag that draped her casket was flown over the US Capitol in Washington DC in honor of her birthday in 2009.

The family would like to thank everyone at Amedisys Home Health and Hospice for their love and support during this time.
