Jerry Means, 61, of 1922 Fifteenth-and-a-half street, Rock Island, widely-known manufacturers agent, died at 12:45 o'clock yesterday morning in St. Anthony's hospital a few moments after he had been taken to the institution.
Mr. Means suffered a heart attack at his home about midnight and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. He had just been placed in the hospital elevator when he succumbed. This was his third heart attack, member of the family said.
Mr. Means was a manufacturers agent and had offices in the Illinois Oil Company building in Rock Island. He was well-known in the industrial field. He was a member of Rock Island Masonic lodge, No. 658.
He was born June 6, 1889, in Kirkwood, Ill., and came to Rock Island when a child. He was reared and educated in this city and married Ann Johnson here June 26, 1912. He was the son of Douglas and Martha Means.
Survivors are the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Willard Johnson, Moline; two sons, Joseph Means, Vacaville, Calif., and Thomas Means, Rock Island; four sisters, Mesdames Frank Bealer, Rock Island; Clarence O. Wilson, San Diego, Calif., Edward Graves, Omaha, Neb., and Chan Henman, Gulfport, Miss., and two brothers, Clark and Stewart Means, both of Rock Island. There are four grandchildren. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Hodgson funeral home. The Rev. J.J. Vellenga, pastor of the United Presbyterian church, will officiate. Rock Island lodge No. 658 A.F. & A.M. also will conduct service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park cemetery.
