Death of Serick Pontsler
The death of Serick Pontsler occurred last Saturday morning in the Sacred Heart hospital in Havre. Death resulted from diphtheria, this disease, together with erysipelas, setting in after an operation for appendicitis about two weeks ago. Mrs. Pontsler was with him at the last. The remains arrived here Sunday and burial took place immediately in the local cemetery.
Serick Pontsler was born in Virginia in 1874, being 41 years of age at the time of his death. His parents moved to Ohio when he was a child, and there his boyhood and young manhood were spent. He removed to Washington in the summer of 1902 and resided in Endicott, Wash., most of the time until 1910, when he brought his family to Galata and filed on a homestead three miles east of town, where they have resided since.
He leaves a family consisting of a wife and four children to mourn his untimely death. His mother, four sisters and a brother are living near Bainbridge, Ohio. J.G. and C.O. Andrew, the former from Great Falls, and the latter from Endicott, Wash., brothers of Mrs. Pontsler, were notified by wire and came at once.
Mr. Pontsler was one of the most respected and best liked men in this community. He was a man of unimpeachable character and high ideals, and will be sorely missed. The sympathy of all in this vicinity goes out to the sorrowing family, lately bereft of a son and brother, and now of the husband and father.
