Clement M. Pontsler, born Jan. 4, 1909, in Endicott, Wash., passed away June 13, 1997, in *SOAP LAKE.

Clem was a resident of the Ephrata area for most of his life, moving there in 1916. He attended several of the local rural schools, graduating from Ephrata High School in 1928. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps after graduation and was stationed in Managua, Nicaragua. He worked in the orchards and on the farms in Grant, Douglas and Chelan counties after returning from the Marine Corps.

In 1941 he married Exer LaVerne Preston and they had a long and loving marriage.

He served in the Navy Construction Battalion (Seabees) during World War II, being stationed in Alaska, the Philippines and Oakland, Calif.

After the war he returned to farming with his uncle and later purchased two irrigated units between Ephrata and Quincy. He retired from farming in 1968 and traveled with his wife. They established a home in Ephrata where he lived until February of 1997.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Exer LaVerne (Preston) Pontsler in 1993. He is survived by his son and wife, Don and Kathy Pontsler, and grandsons, Jon and Steve, all of Puyallup; his sister, Bernice Parker of Spokane; his brother, Dean Pontsler of Moses Lake; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Graveside services and interment at Ephrata Cemetery on June 19 at 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Grant County Museum. Viewing will be held Tues. from 10:00 to 5:00 p.m. and Wed. from 10:00-5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements by Nicoles Funeral Home.
