Ann Caperton Gordon was born on December 6, 1930, in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh, the elder of two daughters of Allen Taylor Caperton Gordon and Alice Walton Scully Gordon. Her father was a well-known attorney. Ann was raised in Shadyside.

She married Paul Beadle Steele. They were the parents of 3 children. In birth order:
Allison Blake Steele
Paul Beadle Steele III
Gordon Allen Steele

Ann Caperton Steele passed away on October 1, 2001, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is survived by her 3 children: Allison Blake (Edward) Lang, Paul Beadle (Patricia) Steele III, and Gordon Allen Steele. She is also survived by her sister, Alice Blake Abbett. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband.
