QUEENSBURY -- Celia Eleanor Bishop Mastrianni, 88, wife of Dr. Michael A. Mastrianni Sr., died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at Glens Falls Hospital.

She was born on Oct. 22, 1913, in Saratoga, the daughter of Merton H. and Ethel Eggleston Bishop.

Mrs. Mastrianni was a 1930 graduate of Saratoga High School and took a Bachelor of Science degree from Albany State in 1934, and a Masters of Education in 1935.

She taught in St. Johnsbury in 1935, at Salem Washington Academy from 1936 to 1940, at Cambridge Central School from 1952 to 1958, at Greenwich Central School from 1958 to 1962, at Glens Falls High School in 1962, and at Argyle Central School from 1963 to 1971. Following her retirement, Mrs. Mastrianni tutored through the Literacy Volunteers of America program in Glens Falls.

Mrs. Mastrianni was considered a master teacher, and in 1961, the Senior Class in Greenwich dedicated its yearbook to her. Her teaching touched more than a generation of her students.

She was active in the Peace Movement of the 1960's, and frequently expressed her opposition to the war in Vietnam by attending rallies both locally and in New York City and Washington, DC.

Mrs. Mastrianni was a descendant of Myles Standish of Mayflower and Plymouth Colony fame, and Roger Williams, Rhode Island founder. Her forebears, the Angells, Egglestons, Greenes and Barrows were early founders of Corinth and Greenfield Center.

Mrs. Mastrianni is predeceased by her first husband, Edward J. Kent, Postmaster of Cambridge; a sister, Doris Bishop Allen of Loudonville; and two brothers, Lawrence D. Bishop of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Richard H. Bishop of Saratoga.
