Emile Godfred Zbinden "The Gardener" 1906 - 2006

"Em" 99, passed away January 16, 2006 of natural causes. He was born in Switzerland August 12, 1906. His parents immigrated to the U.S. in 1908 as converts to the LDS Church. Emile spent early years living on the farm in Logan with his eleven brothers and sisters, all of whom preceded him in death except his sister, Helen Buck. Emile worked for many years and retired as a Hoist Operator for the U.W. Mining and Smelting Co., and in his spare time he enjoyed dancing, fishing and foremost, gardening, benefiting his family and the neighborhood with the produce. He served as a stake missionary in South Salt Lake Stake and a temple worker from 1974 to 2003. In one year he completed 1055 endowments in addition to his other temple assignments. Emile married Vera Nona Ogden in 1940. He is survived by his son, Wendell (Carolyn) Wagstaff; Janet (Bob) Runyan; six grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, and son, Stanford E., grandson, Paul Runyan, great- grandson, Zachary Wagstaff. The family wishes to offer a special thanks to Haven Home Health, Legacy House and the U of U Hospital Staff for their outstanding care given to Emile this last year. Services will be held at the Belview Ward, 300 E. 6300 So., Murray, Utah at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 21, 2006. A viewing will be held at 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens 10600 So. 1900 East, Sandy, Ut. Arrangements under the direction of Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East.
