Mr. Calvin Delano “Cal” Bennett, Jr, age 54, of Bristol, died Thursday morning (April 24, 2014) at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia.

Mr. Bennett was born January 13, 1960 in Savannah, GA but had lived most of his life in Blackshear. He was a 1978 graduate of Blackshear High School and was retired as a superintendent for Rinker Materials based in West Palm Beach, FL. He was very talented at pouring concrete and enjoyed farming, primarily blueberries and pecans.

He loved people, never meeting a stranger, and enjoyed reminiscing about old times. He enjoyed reading, painting, and was a Civil War enthusiast. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who were the lights of his life.

A very gracious and giving man, his giving continues as the donation of his organs will continue to impact many lives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Delano Bennett, Sr. and his grandparents, Ehrlich and Pearl M. Bennett and Hilburn and Pauline Gunnells Cobb.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 16 years, Donna Gregory Bennett of Bristol; his son, Cade of Dallas, TX; his daughter, Jennifer Breaker Dixon (husband Tim) of Patterson; 3 grandsons, Shane, Allen, and Joseph Dixon, all of Patterson; his loving mother, Mary Bennett of Blackshear; 2 brothers, Ashley Bennett (wife Sharon) of Mershon and Sheriff Ramsey Bennett (wife Charlene) of Blackshear; his niece and nephews, Jordan, Josh, and Paige Bennett and Shawn King (wife Brittney), all of Pierce County; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives.

A funeral service will take place Sunday afternoon (4/27/14) at 2 PM in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home in Blackshear. Burial will follow at Alabaha Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Southeast Cancer Unit, 401 Pendleton Street, Waycross, GA 31501 in honor of his mother and wife.
