Aleen Smith Baker, 97, of Gassaway, died at her home on May 25, 2015, surrounded by those who loved her, after a long illness.

She was born March 27, 1918 to the late Oscar Bruce and Vertie Mae Davis Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Henry Baker Jr.; her three bothers, Paul Smith, Wilson Bruce Smith and Thornton Earl Smith; three sisters, Lilly Susan Hamrick, Virginia Ruth Burns, Evelyn Marie Carbone and Reba Mae Smith; and grandson, Paul Roberti.

Aleen was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith and was loved by her Church family. She loved being a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she was a Worthy Matron and received her 50-year pin of faithful service. Aleen was also a member of the GFWC Womans Club of Gassaway.

The family would like to thank the staff of Burnsville Hospice Care, and her wonderful caretaker.

She is now united with her husband of 65-plus years of marriage, David H. Baker Jr. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend. She was always willing to help her fellow neighbors or friends. She was loved by all who knew her and she will be missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Gassaway United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the funeral service being held at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Malick and the Rev. Bryon Bukovesky officiating. Interment will be in Beall's Mill Cemetery, Gassaway, with dinner following at Gassaway Community Building furnished by the women of the Gassaway United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts for Aleen be sent to Gassaway United Methodist Church, 710 Braxton St., Gassaway, WV 26624.
