Mary, a resident of El Guache and originally of Youngsville, was predeceased by her parents Joe I. Salazar Sr. and Ramoncita Salazar; sister Caroline Salazar; brothers: Leroy G. and Dennis Salazar; nieces: Jennifer Salazar and Ginger Jaramillo; nephew Joseph Eloy Salazar; grandson Nathaniel Rey Salazar; stepson-in-law Anthony Gutierrez; brothers-in-law: Lee Padilla and Roy Romero.

Mary was survived by her husband of 12 years, Benicio "Benny" Serrano; son Joseph Eric Salazar (fiancée Jenny); adopted sons: Gabriel and Dion; 6 step-children; siblings: Napoleon Salazar (wife Helen), Eloy Salazar (wife MaryLou), Julia Jaramillo (husband Archie), Joe I. Salazar Jr. (wife Isabel), Betty Padilla, John Alex Salazar (wife Mabel), Theresa Romero, Raymond Salazar (wife Therese), Lucy Abercrombie (husband Loren), Danny Salazar (companion Claudie), Annette Joseph (husband Kevin), and Judy Martinez (husband Leroy); grandchildren: Angelo, Jonathan, Francisco, and Angel; great-grandchildren: Jarrod and Sergio Salazar; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Mary was retired from the State of New Mexico Public Regulation Commission where she was an Administrative Secretary, Mary was very strong in her faith and had a passion for Jesus. She was very personable and she was always willing to help anyone in need. She enjoyed cooking and making fresh tortillas and sopapillas. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Public visitation and Rosary were on 24 April 2014 at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Abiquiu. Mass of Christian burial was on 25 April 2014 also at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Abiquiu. Burial followed in the Cañones Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mary's brothers: Danny, Raymond, John Alex, Joe I., Jr., Eloy, and Napoleon Salazar. Honorary pallbearers were her God-son Francisco Salazar and God-mother Lillian Trujillo. A reception followed burial at the Rio Arriba County Rural Event Center on the El Rito Highway.
