The funeral for Delbert M. Tollerud, 94, of Devils Lake, formerly of Esmond was held Sat. at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Esmond. Interment was in the church cemetery. He died Nov. 18, 1999 at the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake.
Rev. Betty Stedman officiated. Pallbearers were Raymond Tollerud, Stanley & Michael Syverson, John Kallenbach, LeRoy Rice & Gene Olson. The Gilbertson Funeral Home of Devils Lake was in charge of arrangements.
Delbert M. Tollerud was born June 23, 1905 in rich Valley Township of Benson County, near Esmond , to pioneer homesteaders Dorph O. & Marie Kopperud Tollerud. He attended schools in Esmond, Minnewaukan, Minot & Maddock. He attended Valley City Normal School & taught school at North Fork Rural School south of Esmond. He married Elizabeth Grady in 1925 in San Francisco, Calif. They farmed in Isabel Township of Benson County from 1928 to 1942. In 1942 they moved to his parents' farm in Rich Valley Township, where they farmed until retiring in 1969. They continued living on the farm until moving to Devils Lake. During their early years of retirement they traveled around the country visiting friends & relatives. She died in Feb. of 1991. He was a resident of hte Lake Country Manor in Devils Lake before entering the Good Samaritan Center.
He bowled in 2 leagues until his late 70's. He was a past member of the Elks Lodge & the Eagles Aerie. He served on the Esmond Equity Elevator board & the Isabel School District board.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant daughter; & 3 brothers, Arthur, Julian & Richard.
