C. C. SHOCKLEY, one of our oldest and respected citizens, died at four o'clock Monday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Ruka, at Boscobel, with whom Mr. and Mrs. Schockley(sic) have been spending the latter part of the winter. Several weeks ago he was taken with a paralytic stroke from which he could not recover, though he did rally from its effects giving encouragement to relatives and friends. His age was 78 years, 1 month and 1 day.

Christopher C. Shockley was born in Highland County, Ohio, Feb. 22, 1841. When but a boy he moved, with his parents to Fayette, Wis., when Wisconsin was still a territory. In the year 1878 he located at Sun Prairie where, until recently, he made his home.

He served his country for over three years in the War of the Rebellion and received an honorable discharge. His tall symmetrical form won for him the distinction of being one of the best looking soldiers in his regiment.

In the year 1861 he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret S. Pirie, of Madison, Wis. to them were born seven children, four sons and three daughters, six of whom survive him, the youngest dying in infancy.


They are:
Alice and Frederick Shockley of Sun Prairie
Charles Shockley of Rockford, Ill.,
Mrs. Jennie Hidden and Pirie Schlockley(sic) of Portland, Oregon, and
Mrs. Fred Ruka of Boscobel.

There are four grandchildren:
Gladys and Margaret Shockley
Charles Hidden, and
John Pirie Ruker.
