Paul on Palm Sunday, 2003. His left shirt pocket falls open, indicating he had his trademark notepad in there--ready to write down anything and everything that interested him. Paul never stopped learning. This photo was used on the cover of the bulletin at his funeral service.

Paul's father James John Boone with James' grandparents--either Boggs or Boone. There are X's over the heads of both of the adults, presemably added after their deaths. Photo came from boxes in the home of Jannie Boggs Boone after her death.

Note on back of photo:Bob took this snap of me Xmas so I'd have proof toenup home that I did have fresh cut roses for Xmas. Rosanna [Ermal's sister] wrote and asked "Fresh cut from where -- the Greenhouse?"Am also proud of the fact that I've not gotten "Tubby" this time, Have only gained 19 lbs. Grandson Kaya, taken 2-1-2002.
Kaya is checking out Grandpa Boone's new "shop", the 24x36 foot workshop that Paul built in his Gardendale backyard after he finally retired from full-time electrical work. Paul inherited woodworking tools from Bobbie's Uncle Bud Frick, and used these tools to construct the building.
Building this workshop made Dad as excited and happy as anyone had seem him in a long while.
Sadly, the cancers arrived just after he completed the building and he never completed his smaller woodworking projects.

Paul & Bobbie in February 2002 at Palmetto's with family for their joint Bday celebration.
Paul turned 70 that week, and, as evidenced by the photo, was still very much in love with Bobbie.
We had a wonderful bday celebration, with videotaped tributes, narrated slide shows, and plenty of love outpoured on what no one could imagine would be the last normal birthdays our parents would have together.

Paul & Bobbie with all their kids (LR: Jennifer, Mark, Paul, Cindy, Jim, Michelle) in August 2002. Paul is tired, recuperating from several weeks of 24/7 chemotherapy for colon cancer diagnosed in June. None of us could know that the brain tumor (glioblastoma mutiforme) that eventually took his life was already growing and affecting him. Ever ready to take notes, his pen and pad are in his pocket. Near the end of Dad's life, we dressed him each day in a T-shirt with a pad in the pocket. Even when not fully aware, he would reach for and seem reassured by its presence. We buried him with a notepad in which each of us had written notes to him.

November 2002. Paul is enjoying time with two of his many grandchildren, Brittany & Sarah. At this point, full of optimism, he had undergone surgery to remove as much as possible of the GBM tumor that eventually regrew. He was also preparing for radiation treatments. In all these trials, Paul never asked "Why me?", rather saying "Why not me?" and trusting in God's providence and provision.

Paul in Spring 2003 with grandchildren Brooke, Hunter & Seth. Life had slowed down a bit, and Paul spent lots of time resting on the couch--there, rather than the bedroom, so he could enjoy his tropical fish, his birds, and the company that came every afternoon wanting to spend time with this precious, wonderful man.
