GRAYSON THORNTON DIES AT RESIDENCE

Grayson D. Thornton, Sr., 67, of 9-B Brookland Ct., superintendent of the state liquor commission warehouse in Charleston, died early yesterday morning at the residence after a six-month illness.
Service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Barlow mortuary chapel with Dr. Harry S. Longley, rector of St. John's Episcopal church officiating Burial will be in Sunset Memorial park.
Mr. Thornton, a native of Richmond, Va., was born Oct. 10, 1879, the son of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Thornton.
Before coming to Charleston in 1934 to help organize the liquor commission warehouse, he was manager of the Huntington Tobacco warehouse for 22 years. He had held the local position since 1934.
Mr. Thornton was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of Charleston lodge No. 202, BPOE and the Episcopal church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth N. Thornton; two daughters, Mrs. Oscar Krachenbuehl, Huntington, and Mrs. August Petti, Baltimore, Md.; two sons, Robert of Charleston and Grayson D. Thornton Jr., Huntington.
Active pallbearers will be Charles H. Newton, Charles Greene, Gordan Baxter, Jess Hinkle, John Sims, and Joe Freedman.
