On Thursday morning of last week at about ten o'clock, at his home in William street, occurred the death of J. Albert Scobell, after an illness Of nearly two years. Mr Scobell was born in Kingston, Ont., January 25, 1841. He came to Cape Vincent in 1857, and later engaged in the brewery business with his father, Sidney Scobell, who built the brewery in lower Broadway. He later engaged in the lumber, feed and grain business, which he continued until the time of his death. He did a large business and had a wide acquaintance with the farmers' in this section of the, county. Upon attaining his majority, Mr. Scobell affiliated himself with the Democratic party, and for years took X prominent part in the politics of the town. He served the town of Cape Vincent as its supervisor for seven consecutive years, from 1882 to 1888. consecutive years from 1882 to 1888. Mr. Scobell was a member of Cape Vincent Lodge, F. & A. M., and served as master in 1878; Cape Vincent Chapter, No. 96; Watertown Commandery, No. 11 K., and Media Temple. He was a member of St. John's episcopal church, and for a great many years had served in the capacity of senior warden. He is survived by one son, Albert J. Scobell, of this village, and four daughters, Mrs. F. W. Sacket and Mrs. V. F. Gilchriese, of Cape Vincent, Mrs. N.E. White, of Troy, and Mrs John Kingston of Rochester.
