Died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. H. Dewey of Carney, Okla., March 11, 1907, Jacob Presler at the age 87 years, 1 month and 6 days.

The deceased is the fifth child of a family of twelve children. One older brother is still living. He was born in Union county, Penn.. In his early boyhood with his parents he moved to Ashland county, Ohio. There he married Nancy Metcalf, the daughter of Massom and Hannah Metcalf, who departed this life ten years ago.

From their union seven children were born, three sons and four daughters, of whom four survive him. Mrs. Julia A. Harbinson of Jewell, Kan., Mrs B. G. Williams of Perkins, James Presler of Cerstes City, Okla., and Mrs. H. H. Dewey of Carney.

The deceased with his family moved to Marion, Iowa, in the year 1852; from there to Jewell county, Kans., in 1870. He was one of the pioneers of western Kansas. He helped to organize that county and helped to stake out the first roads that crossed its prairie.

He lived in a consistent Christian through all the hardships of the pioneer life and to the end of his days. He was an Elder of the Christian church for many years: generous and charitable to a fault, his money was always free for the work of the Lord; active in good works.

During his last sickness he was exceedingly patient, and bore his extreme suffering for four weeks without complaint, and expressed himself as ready to go. We mourn his loss; but not like those who have no hope. He has gone to rest and has left an exemplary life behind.

The funeral services were conducted in Carney Tuesday by his old acquaintance and friend J. W. Garner.
