RIDGELAND, SC - Frank Stillman Horton, 95, died Monday, September 17, 2007 at his home in Ridgeland, SC. He was born March 25, 1912 in Ridgeland, SC to the late Stanislaus Stillman Horton and Sarah Helen Ulmer Horton.
During his long and productive life, he served as administrator of farming operations on several plantations in Jasper, Beaufort and Chatham counties that included Turkey Hill and Clarendon Plantations. He also worked as a woods rider for Okeetee Club. He was a lifelong member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church in Ridgeland, SC and played an important role in preparing the ground for the construction of the present church and its landscaping. He was an avid gardener and until a short time before his death, he planted large spring and fall gardens. He derived great pleasure from sharing his produce with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Willie Mae Munch Horton of Ridgeland, SC; three sons and their wives, James F. (Diana) Horton of Fayetteville, AR.; Wendell A. (Sarah Ann) Horton and C. Graham (Carol) Horton, all of Ridgeland, SC; six grandchildren, Grace Kattan of Cleveland, OH; Christopher Horton of Chicago, IL; Allen Horton of Yemassee, SC; Van Horton of Beaufort, SC; Reaves Montjoy of Savannah, GA and Taylor Horton of Ridgeland, SC; six great grandchildren, Madeleine and Lily Kattan of Cleveland, OH; Jacob, Samuel and John Paul Horton of Beaufort, SC and Jammison Horton of Yemassee, SC; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Clyde Fickling and Kathleen Brown and three brothers, Haskell, Willard and Edward Horton.
A visitation will be held from 5 til 7 pm on Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams Street, Ridgeland, SC. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 in Ridgeland Cemetery, Ridgeland, SC. Memorial donations may be made to St. Pauls United Methodist Church, PO Box 550, Ridgeland, SC 29936 or Hospice Care of America, 21 Professional Village Circle, Beaufort, SC 29907.
