Sulema Cesena Castillo died in May 1907, a month after her daughter Mariana, and three months before her son Joseph. Daughter Beatrice died in 1899 and Vivian died a few months before her father in 1913. Besides the children buried in the Hacienda Cemetery, there were three other Castillo children, all who lived to adulthood: Margaret, Ernestine and Nicholas Jr.

According to the 1910 census, Margaret and Ernestine were students at the Notre Dame Institute in San Jose and Nicholas Jr. lived at St. Anthony's Orphanage for Boys in Watsonville. Margaret later married Edward A. Espinosa, Ernestine became a nun and taught at Notre Dame and Nicholas Jr. married Evelyn Ivey.
