Jerry D Coates

1937 - 2014

Surrounded by loving family and friends, Jerry D Coates peacefully passed away after a long, happy life.

Born in Provo, Utah, March 28, 1937, Jerry was the third child born to Lee Zakariah and Anita Harvey Coates.

While serving in the U.S. Navy, in 1955 Jerry married Diane Lawrence, who passed away in 1960. In 1964, Jerry married Janice Ohai, who he has shared and enjoyed his life with, and together, on Sunday, April 13th, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

For 26 years, Jerry was a journeyman machinist at Geneva Steel. He worked into retirement working for SLC.

Jerry loved many things in this life, always first was his family. He spent many years taking them to the mountains, hunting and fishing, among many other things. In recent years, he and Janice, and their K-9 babies, Annie and Maggie, loved wintering in Florence, Arizona, spending time in the sun with wonderful friends. They especially loved their time there when family visited, sharing with them the sights and scenery of AZ, and their favorite music nights. They spent much of their time there grooming their desert home and Jerry had a passion for tinkering and building, although it didn't matter where he was for that! There wasn't a thing that he couldn't "Jerry-rig"! Jerry's monumental love for his grandchildren, and great grandchildren goes without mention. There was nothing else in his life that he was more proud of.

Survived by his wife, Janice; children: Tony (Pam), Mike (Julie), Rick (Dana), Kelly, Wendy (Tim), Brenda (Mike); 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; siblings: Carol Rasmussen, Ruth Roggman, and Linda McKenzie. Preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters, and two grandsons.

Viewing will be Thursday, April 17, 6-8 p.m. at Anderson and Son's Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 18, at 11 a.m., viewing one hour prior, at the Highland Utah Central Stake Center, 5853 W 10400 N, Highland.

Interment will be in the American Fork Cemetery
