Oscar Clemmens Ford was the son of William Johnson Ford & Mary McGee. He first married Ellen Amanda Brown, Oct. 4, 1867 in Wabash, Indiana. They had 5 children. He second married Clara Belle Ballaseux.

Oscar was raised as a farmer and educated in the common schools of Wabash. At the age of 17 he enlisted March 24, 1862 into military service of the United States, assigned to the 14th Battery Indiana Light Artillery. He served his country well until September 1865, the end of the War.
