Lenore Katherine (Becker) Eckles, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Margaret (Kelly) Becker was born September 11, 1925 on their farm by Geneva, Nebraska.
She passed away December 23, 2005 at the Nelson Good Samaritan Center in Nelson, Nebraska at the age of 80 years, 3 months and 12 days.
Lenore attended District 68 and 24 schools in Fillmore County. Her family moved to Exeter, Nebraska in 1937, where she graduated from Exeter High School in 1942. After graduation she worked at the Fairmont Air Base. While living in Fairmont, she met her future husband Phillip Eckles while he was working on a construction crew with Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company.
Lenore and Phillip were married at St Stephen’s Catholic Church in Exeter Nebraska on October 20, 1945. They made their home in Hastings, Nebraska, where their son William Richard (Dick) was born on December 6, 1946. They subsequently lived in Tecumseh, Edgar, Sutton and Nelson, where they have lived since 1965.
Lenore was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Elaine Gulbrandsen.
She is survived by her husband Phillip and son Dick and wife Carol of Nelson, Nebraska, grandchildren Sarah Eckles and Daniel Eckles of Lincoln, Nebraska, SSgt Julia Merrill of Ramstein AFB, Germany and her husband SSgt James Merrill of Spangdahlem AFB, Germany. She is also survived by her sister Jean Volkmer and brother Bill Becker of Exeter, Nebraska, and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at 10:30 AM from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nelson, Nebraska with Father Philip Luther officiating. Lector was Jerome Mazour and altar servers were Addison McCartney. Music was "O Mary Our Mother" and "Amazing Grace" sung by Alicia Ferguson, with Howard Reed as pianist and Ivan Miller as violinist.
Pallbearers were John Hassler, Tom Hassler, Bill McCutchan, Bob Eckles, Bob Becker and Bill Volkmer.
Rosary Service was Monday, December 26, 2005 at 7:00 PM at the Klawitter-Price Funeral Home. Memorials may be given in care of the family.
Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska.
