Jean was born on January 5, 1928 to William and Elizabeth (Kelly) Becker.

She was raised on a farm outside of Exeter and attended Saint Stephens School in Exeter for most of her childhood.

She met her husband, Ervin Volkmer, at a picnic and dance at the Catholic school in Geneva. They were married on November 20, 1946 at the Saint Stephens Catholic Church in Exeter.

One of their first adventures as a married couple included following the harvest with a combining crew creating memories that she would reminisce about often.

She was a member of the Exeter Catholic Alter Society and the Exeter Legion Auxiliary; and worked with the Exeter Public Schools, the Exeter Care Center, Dale's Electronics, and the donut shop in Exeter.

She and Ervin were also blessed with seven children who quickly became the center of her world. Jean loved watching her children grow and later enjoyed the births of 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

She was the glue that held our family together and will be greatly missed by those surviving her death including her children Dennis (Kathy) Volkmer of York, Ann (John) Copple of Lincoln, Mary (Bruce) Keiderling of Chesapeake,VA, Bill (Terri) Volkmer of Exeter, John (Debbie) Volkmer of York, and Sarah (Fred) Analla of Athens, IL, as well as her grandchildren, great grandchildren and other extended family.

She has been preceded in death by her parents, siblings Bill, Elaine and Lenore, son Tom, grandson Travis, and great grandson Jonas.

Funeral Mass for Jean will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014, at the St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Exeter, Nebraska.
