Andrew Parkins Dead
Victim of Accident on Asotin Road on Evening of October 8 Passed Away Yesterday Afternoon at Lapwai.
Lapwai, Nov. 23 - (Special to the Tribune)
Andrew S. Parkins, familiarly known as "Dad" Parkins and widely known throughout the central Idaho and Eastern Washington country, passed away at 1 o'clock this afternoon as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident on the evening of October 8 when his car went over the grade between Lewiston and Asotin.
Mr. Parkins was first taken to Asotin and was later removed to Lewiston, where an operation was performed. He was brought to his home in Lapwai several weeks ago and while his mind was never entirely clear after the accident it was thought he was doing nicely and would fully regain his health. For several days it was noted he was failing and Sunday it was apparent his condition was critical. He continued to grow weaker until this afternoon, when he passed away.
Mr. Parkins was one of the best known men in the Lapwai country, having resided there for about 15 years and had much of the time been engaged in the livery business. He was a man of many fine qualities and his death comes as a severe blow to the entire community. Mr. Parkins was born in Illinois in 1849 and when about 14 year of age removed with his parents to Iowa. On May 16, 1869, he was united in marriage with Miss Ellen Brown, who survives him. He is also survived by four daughters, two sons, seven brothers and one sister, the children being: Orlando Parkins, Mrs. Harvey Thomas of Spalding; Mrs. George King of Lapwai, Mrs. Vic Halladay of Lapwai, Mrs. Frank Quillan of Lapwai and Lynn Parkins.
The funeral will be conducted from the Lapwai Presbyterian church on Thursday by Rev. Smitz and the remains will be taken to Lewiston for interment. The hour of the funeral has not been determined.
