Maxine C. Jameson, 92, of Jacksonville, Ore., passed away Monday, March 31, 2014, at her home in the Pioneer Village Cottages.
Maxine had a full and beautiful life. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and a hero to her family as well as many friends.
Maxine graduated from Snow Jr. College in 1941. She was one of the first 100 women to obtain a private pilot's license and was employed by the FAA as a control tower operator during WWII at San Francisco and Salt Lake airports.
Maxine married Que Jameson in 1943, and was a devoted and loving wife. They lived in Grants Pass, Ore., for eight years where she was President of the Grants Pass Jayce-etts.
They moved to Ashland, Ore., where she was involved in the Ashland League of Women Voters, director of the Jackson County Red Cross, secretary for the Jackson County Red Cross, and chairman of the Ashland Blood Program for the American Red Cross for seven years where she worked with Service to Military Families.
They moved to Jacksonville, Ore., in 1968, where Maxine was involved in many community activities and received many awards over the years. She loved living in Jacksonville.
In 1973, Maxine was recognized for Outstanding Service Toward Preservation and Restoration by the Jacksonville Booster Club. She was awarded Citizen of the Year by the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce in 1977, and Booster of the Year by the Booster Club. She was chairman of the Jackson County Bicentennial Committee and trustee of the Southern Oregon Historical Society. Maxine was involved in the Siskiyou Pioneer Sites, volunteer case worker, chairman- Jacksonville Preservation Workshop for two years, director and vice president of the Jackson County TB and Health Assn, and treasurer of the Jackson County Oregon State Mother's Club. She also served as a board member for the Rogue Valley Manor.
Maxine loved to travel the world with her husband, Que. Cruising and dancing were especially enjoyable to her.
Maxine is survived by her two daughters, Lynne Karau (Bob Karau), and Judy Calhoun (Richard Calhoun); four grandchildren, Lori Karau, Kari Plas, Andrew Calhoun, Coray Dykes; and six great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all of her family and friends. She was a wonderful role model for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Maxine's family wants to thank the Signature caregivers, especially, Ranae, who assisted her for many years. They became like family. The Hospice staff and Pioneer Village staff were also appreciated.
Maxine was a beloved wife, mother, and friend who was an amazing woman in her own right. She will be missed by all of us.
There will be a private interment at the Eagle Point National Cemetery and, at her request, there will be no funeral service.
