George Buff
July 1, 1926 - March 26, 2014
Mr. George Nathan Buff, at home with the Lord, on Wednesday, March, 26, 2014. Dear brother of Carrie (Dorlyn) Ball, Paul W. Buff, and the late Betty Henry. Dear son of the late Paul and Roxie Buff. Dear uncle of Janet (Fred) Edwards and Susan (Steve) Drager. Dear great uncle of David Edwards, Carolyn Dunand, Erin VanZee, Lauren Ruhe, and Jamie Cantrell. A dear cousin, neighbor and friend. George was born July 1, 1926 in Eden, Wyoming. He was the oldest of four children. When he was two years old, the family relocated to West Plains, Missouri. His mother passed away when he was 16 years old and in his 20's, George moved to the country to live with his Aunt Anna Parker, a widow in need of help caring for the family farm. Although visually impaired, George helped with daily farm chores such as feeding chickens and livestock, and tending the large vegetable and flower gardens. He was a great help to Aunt Anna and stayed with her until her passing at age 98. Because of continued diminishing eye sight, George was not able to live independently and in 1989, moved to St. Louis to live with his sister, Betty Henry. In 1994, when Betty also passed away, he moved in with his sister and brother-in-law, Carrie and Dorlyn Ball, who cared for him until his passing. Because of exposure to measles when his mother was pregnant, George was born with severe vision and speech disabilities and as the years went by, his vision continued to deteriorate. Although he was completely blind for the last 15 years, it didn't stop him from living life to the fullest of his abilities. He loved the Lord with all his heart, and enjoyed attending church and church activities, and was a member of Fee Fee Baptist Church for the last 25 years. In spite of life's challenges, he never displayed discouragement and in all his years, no one can recall a negative word. He was quick with a thank you and a smile. He remembered dates better than anyone and if you ever needed to recall a birthdate, you only needed to ask George. He loved flowers and talking about the weather. He continued the farm schedule of early to bed, early to rise and was up every morning by 5 a.m. He enjoyed going out for breakfast where his favorite servers greeted him warmly by name. George touched many lives with his humble, gentle spirit and even in his final hours, thanked hospital caregivers and told them, 'God bless you.' His faith and trust in the Lord is an inspiration; he was a blessing in this life and will be truly missed. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Fee Fee Baptist Church, 11330 Saint Charles Rock Road, Bridgeton, MO 63044 with burial to follow at Mount Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. Family requests memorials to Fee Fee Baptist Church Building Fund.
