PROMINENT BUSINESS MAN PASSES AWAY.
ACTIVE IN FRATERNITIES
Long Resident of This City and Leaves Host of Friends -- Succumbs After Long Battle With Lingering Disease.

John Lamont, politician, business man and prominent member of different fraternal societies, died at his home, Third and Mill streets, at 11:15 o'clock yesterday morning from cancer of the jaw. The deceased had been a sufferer from the fatal malady for over two years, and about six months underwent an operation at the Good Samaritan Hospital....

John Lamont was born in Chautauqua County, N.Y., June 9, 1845, passing his early childhood in Western New York, later moving to Dane County, Wisconsin. He was the senior member of the realty firm of Lamont & Harris. (more about his fraternity membership)....

He is survived by his wife and three children, Samuel and Brown Lamont and Mrs. Marguerite Wolfe, wife of a leading lawyer of La Crosse, Wis.

REALTY BOARD PASSES RESOLUTIONS. -- The Portland Realty Board through its committee composed of J.O. Rountree, chairman, W.H. Moore, H.P. Palmer, L. E. Carter and W.H. Hall has adopted resolutions in respect to the memory of the late Gustaf Swennson and the late John Lamont, both of whom were respected members of the Board.
