"Johnny" was the son of Clarence Anton Baecht and Myrl Gowin. The family lived in Grafton, Jersey County, Illinois. His father worked as a fireman at the local gunpowder mill.

Johnny died of ileocolitis, the most common type of Crohn's disease. His death came 4 days after his first birthday.

Johnny's gravemarker was made for him by his youngest brother, Robert J. "Bob" Baecht.

He was survived by his mother and father. The Baechts moved to Texas in the 1940's.
