Born in Williamson County to parents William Henry Cotton and Martha J. (Ballard) Cotton, Delia Nancy Cotton was the youngest of eight children. She lived with her parents until the death of her mother in 1903. After that, she moved to Nashville and worked as a machine operator/seamstress. She lived there up until near her death. Around the time of her death due to tuberculosis, she moved back home and died there in Williamson County. She was buried in Leiper's Fork Cemetery, Williamson County. She never married nor had children.
