Mrs. Mary Grace Colwell Hemphill, age 98, native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, who passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014, in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.

Mrs. Hemphill was born in Blairsville on November 25, 1915, a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Colwell and Julia Ann Casteel Colwell. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Mrs. Hemphill loved her husband and her family - she was an excellent cook who took great pride and care in preparing delicious meals for her family. She enjoyed working in her flowers and outside in the yard. Her husband, Ray Mauney Hemphill, preceded her in death, as well as a daughter, Peggy Ann Hemphill; a sister, Willie Drake; and two brothers, Frank Colwell and Harry Colwell.

Mrs. Hemphill's memory will be treasured forever by her loving family members: son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Nola Hemphill, of Blairsville, and daughter, Judy Hemphill Rich, also of Blairsville; three grandchildren and their spouses: Mike and Kristal Hemphill; Danny and Jana Hemphill; and Cary and Robin Rich; great grandchildren: Jonathan Gordon, Josh Rich, Jordan Rich, Gabe Hemphill, Calan Hemphill, Kylah Hemphill, Kanon Hemphill, and Kaston Hemphill. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hemphill have been scheduled for Thursday, March 27, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Mike Hemphill, Danny Hemphill, Cary Rich, Jonathan Rich, Josh Rich, and Gabe Hemphill. Serving as honorary escort will be Kanon Hemphill and Kaston Hemphill. Burial will be in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will meet with friends on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Cochran Funeral Homes, between the hourso of 5 until 8 p.m.
