Rev. Roddy was an 1891 graduate of Princeton University in New Jersey, and an 1894 graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, after which he was ordained for Presbyterian ministry on June 28, 1894 by the Presbytery of Des Moines in Iowa. He was the pastor of the Presbyterian congregations in Dexter and Earlham, Iowa (1894-1896), after which he went to a church in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where he served 1896-1906).

NATIVE OF PERRY COUNTY PASSES AWAY IN HIS SLEEP
Funeral services will be held in the Presbyterian Church, New Bloomfield, on Sunday, January 22, at 2:30 p. m. for Rev. Joseph Stockton Roddy, 85, who passed away in his sleep at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Wyngate, Mullica Hill, N. J., on Thursday, January 12. The service will be in charge of the Rev. Caleb L. Pancoast, pastor of the Center Presbyterian Church and will be assisted by the Rev. William A. Webb, Jr, of Harrisburg, and Rev. Curtis O. Bosserman, of Shippensburg. Interment will be in the New Bloomfield Cemetery.
Dr. Roddy, who was born at Mt. Pleasant, Perry county, became M. A. B. D, and Ph D. He was president and teacher at the New Bloomfield Academy from 1910 to 1916; was pastor of the Olivet Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg, from 1896 to 1908, and was Professor of Education and Psychology at Beaver College, Jenkinstown, Pa. He made the world's record on the race track as a runner when a young man which has neve been broken yet.
