Wilson Leroy Allen, 97 of Farmington, died at 10:05 P.M Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL.
He was born on January 24, 1917 in Uniontown, IL, to Roy O. and Ora Faye (Owen) Allen. He married J. Maxine Henry in Galesburg, IL, on February 27, 1937.
Wilson is survived by his wife, Maxine of 77 years; two sons, Wilson Gene (Shirley) Allen of Galesburg, IL, and Roy Edward Allen of rural Farmington, IL; a daughter Pamela Sue Hanlin of rural Maquon, IL; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Kenneth and Donald Allen.
Wilson was born, raised, and educated in Uniontown, IL. He worked as a weigh master at the Pekin Coal Mine and retired from Peabody Coal Company, Reclamation Department in 1982.
He was a member of the Uniontown Baptist Church and later in life, the Douglas United Methodist Church. Wilson was a man who could fix anything, loved to garden, and loved telling a great story. He loved his family and was a great mentor to many. He loved visiting with his friends and family
Friends and family are invited to the graveside service at 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Uniontown Cemetery. Rev. Marty Briney will officiate. All are invited for fellowship that will follow the graveside service at Oaks Community Church, 1868 Congregation Road, Dahinda, IL. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Nursing Home.
