She was born Nov. 11, 1924 in Springfield, the daughter of James S. and Mary Idalee Whalen Ray. She married Eugene C. Kennedy on June 10, 1944 in Springfield. He preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two infant sons, Michael and Dennis Kennedy; four sisters, C. Ruby Ray, Gladys Ray, Mary V. Whisker and Eloise Hill and two brothers, James and Joseph H. Ray.
She is survived by her two sons, Timothy P. (Jean) Kennedy and Kevin C. (Mary) Kennedy; one daughter, Barbara J. ( Burt) Fairchild; seven grandchildren; sister, Charlotte Theobold and several nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Ursuline Academy, Springfield Junior College, and then earned a degree from the University of Illinois at Springfield. She was employed as a US Bankruptcy Clerk for the Central District of IL for 42 years until her retirement in 1986.
