ADA — Services for Maude LaVane McCortney, 91, Ada, are 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Dr. George Warren, Dr. Roberto Escamilla, and the Rev. Bob Langston will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.

Mrs. McCortney died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at her home. She was born Dec. 23, 1916, at Comanche, Okla., to Austin Verdo and Maud Killen Moore.

She graduated from Comanche High School. In the early 1970s, she entered East Central University. She graduated Cum Laude and received a bachelor of arts degree in 1977, with a double major in English and history and a minor in art.

She married Donald Eugene McCortney Feb. 5, 1938, at the Methodist parsonage in Comanche.

They made their home in Duncan, Okla. Mr. McCortney worked for Duncan Abstract Company, and later in 1955, moved to Ada where they were co-owners of Williams Abstract Company. In 1960, the McCortneys became sole owners of Williams Abstract and merged with Home Title Guaranty Company, and in 1967 became sole owners of Home Title Guaranty Company.

Mr. McCortney died Jan. 28, 1983.

She sold the company to her grandson, Bart McCortney in 1996, but continued to go to the office until her mid-80s.

She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, serving in many different leadership positions. She was a member of the Serendipity Sunday School Class. She was one of the first two ladies admitted to the Rotary Club of Ada, and a member of "The Book Club".

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Bahner and husband Rick, Norman, and Cindy Jefferson and husband Larry, Dallas; a son, Don McCortney and wife Pat, Dallas; a brother, Royce Woodson Moore and wife Mozella, Duncan; a daughter-in-law, Amelda McCortney, Ada; grandchildren, Marika Anne McCortney Weber and husband Thad, Gun Barrel City, Texas, Matt McCortney and wife Brandi, Saginaw, Texas, Bart McCortney and wife Cheryl, Ada, Greg McCortney and wife Ashley, Ada; Dr. Jill McCortney Harris and husband Brock, Ada, Rich Bahner and wife Kelli, Fort Worth, Texas, Josh Bahner, Denver, Colo., Dr. Jennifer Bahner, Cleveland, Ohio, Drew Bahner, Norman, Kristin Jefferson and her fiancé, Nathan Fay, Dallas, Texas, Laura Jefferson, Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren, Brian Weber, Jake McCortney, Alex Alvarado, Ryan McCortney, Kate McCortney, Addison McCortney, Reagan LaVane McCortney, Carl McCortney, Bella Bahner, Raylen Bahner, and Gareth Harris.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Killen Mathis Moore, Verdo Swayne Moore, Jean Clyde Moore, her husband, and a son, Charles Richard McCortney.

Her grandchildren will serve as bearers.
