Sylvester PAGE, son of James and Rachel (ASHCRAFT) PAGE, was born near Bladensburg, Knox County, Ohio, February 23, 1852; died at his home near Robison, March 27, 1931, aged seventy-nine years, one month and four days.

Ves, as he was familiarly called, was of a family of seven children, four boys and three girls. His father met with accidental death and the mother was left the little children to battle through life without the help and counsel of a husband and father.

When Mr. PAGE was a lad of about eight years of age, the mother, with her family, moved to Greene County. This was during the covered wagon days and the trip was made in covered wagons, they bringing their horses and other belongings with them. He remained here until a boy of about twenty years, when he went back to the home of his childhood. He stayed there about two years and returned to Indiana, where he spent the remainder of his life.

He was married to Mary HUDSON, January 4, 1884. To this union eight children were born, the mother and two children preceding him in death. This was a happy union and their home was one of peach and harmony until about eight years ago the home was made sad and lonely by the death of wife and mother, but three devoted daughters were at home to comfort the father in his declining years.

For many years he was handicapped on account of the health of his mother, she being an invalid for about twenty-five years, and it falling to his lot to care for her, he performed his task without a murmur or complaint. He was an honest , upright citizen and neighbor of the truest type; a man that attend strictly to his own business; was accommodating and was always willing and ready to lend a helping hand in time of need.

He had been in declining health for some time, but his final sickness was of short duration. During his brief illness he received the tenderest care of his loving children, they being constantly at his bedside, ready and anxious to administer to his ever want and need. And while everything that loving hearts and willing hand could do to restore his health was of no avail, they can reflect to their sadness, that they did their full duty in making his last days here on earth comfortable.

He is united with the Baptist Church early in life.

He is survived by two sons, Harley, of Bloomfield; Allen of near Koleen; four daughters, Mrs. Clyde WORKMAN, Lyons; Mrs. Herschell SHAFFER, near Robison, and Misses Louella and Osie, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Eliza J. FOREDYCE, and Mrs. Almira WOODALL, and one brother, Jesse PAGE, and other relatives and friends, who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Logan HATFIELD at Ashcraft Chapel Saturday, March 28, at 2 p.m. and he was laid to rest by the side of his wife in the ASHCRAFT Cemetery.
