William Osborne Mims passed away March 6, 2014. He was a native and life long resident of Jacksonville, attended local schools, graduated from Andrew Jackson High School where he was Class President. He also graduated with honors from the University of Florida. While at Florida, he was a member of the "F" club, Athletic Council, Gargoyle Architecture honorary, and the Sigma Nu Fraternity.

During World War II he served as an Army Air Force officer, B-24 pilot, European Theater of Operations.

He was a member of Avondale United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Faithful Friends Sunday School Class and served on numerous church committees.

He served on Hope Haven Children's Board of Directors for 30 years, a past member of Timuquana Country Club and the River Club. He was associated with The Auchter Company for over 40 years, retiring in 1993 as President.

Mr. Mims is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Bobbie Ross Mims. Survivors are daughter and son in law, Susan Mims Newkirk and Duncan Chalker Newkirk of Charleston, SC; son and daughter in law William O. Mims, Jr. and Ann Gordon Mims. Surviving grandchildren are Susan Osborne Wilson, Duncan Chalker Newkirk, Jr. Megan Mims Myburgh, Alison Lambert Mims and great grandchildren Jack Wilson, Olivia Wilson, William Wilson and Charlotte Newkirk, Hunter Newkirk, Lillian Newkirk. In addition, there are several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Avondale United Methodist Church, 1651 Talbot Avenue at 11:00 am. Reverend Clare Chance officiating. Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery. Those desiring may give a memoriam to Avondale United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.
