1918 ~ 2013
Beloved Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend died on July 4th, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
Born to Lucinano and Feliz Martinez Maestas, May 16, 1918 in Edith, Colorado, raised in Montrose, Colorado. He married Mary O. Vigil September 23, 1939 in Grand Junction, Colorado. They moved to Salt Lake City in 1940.
Dad's love, warmth and friendship is a quality his family and friends which will be forever cherished. Dad has always been a hardworking man with work ethics that has been admired by peers and family.
He served his country in the United States Army during World War II in Asiatic Pacific Theatre 1944 to 1946. Worked construction as a Cement Mason with majority of his working experience with Weyher Construction Company until his retirement in 1983.
Abel is survived by five children, Tony (Linn), Denver, CO; Sharon (Jerry) McPolin, Midvale; Gordon, South Jordan; Alice Maestas, Murray; Dave (Kathy), Salt Lake City; 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; brothers, Fred (Stella), California; Gilbert, SLC; sister, Mary (Val) Gomez, Sandy; many nieces and nephews who loved, cherished him and will miss him dearly.
Abel was preceded in death by the Love of his Life, Mary, one brother and one sister.
The family appreciates greatly the care and concern of the staff of VA Hospital with special thanks to Dr. Huhtala and the care given by Superior Home Care and Hospice.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 11th, 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 715 West 300 North, SLC; the Rosary will be recited Wednesday, July 10th, 7:00 pm., Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South where friends may call between 6 and 7 p.m. Committal Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 4th Ave. and "T"Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your favorite charity in Abel's name.
